It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James "Dale" Poppy, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who left this world on April 10, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on May 25, 1938, in Cleveland, Ohio, Dale lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a dedication to those around him. Dale was the son of Willard Poppy and Margaret Hollstrom and grew up in a warm and nurturing household. His zest for life was evident from an early age, and he carried that spirit with him throughout his years. On October 10, 1959, he married the love of his life, Charleen Miller, in Cedar Falls, lowa. Their union was a beautiful partnership that lasted an incredible 65 years, marked by unwavering love, shared adventures, and a commitment to family. Dales's educational journey led him to the lowa State Teachers College, where he cultivated a passion for learning that he carried into his professional life. He became a respected technical writer at Qualcomm, a role he held until his retirement in 2011. His career was characterized by a meticulous attention to detail and a desire to communicate complex ideas simply and effectively. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dale was a cherished member of his community and an active participant in his church in Vista, CA. He was involved in Marriage Encounter and sang joyfully in the Fallbrook Chorale. His love for music was evident not only in his singing but also in his talent for tuning pianos and playing the handbells. Dale was a true enthusiast of life, with interests ranging from astronomy to traveling the world, often sharing tales of his adventures with his family and friends. Dale was a man who loved to connect with people. His warm nature, sense of humor, and habit of telling jokes made everyone feel at ease in his presence. He had a unique charm, often seen wearing a hat adorned with hair and proudly showing off pictures of his "Pride & Joy". He was a devoted father to his daughter, Linda Logan, and a loving grandfather to James Akers (great-granddaughters- Isla and Evelyn Akers), Nichole Eccles (great-grandchildren Landen, Ryder, and Peyton Eccles), Sean Poppy, Alexa Swinton, and Kristopher Logan. His family meant the world to him, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Dale is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Charleen Poppy, his son Dennis Poppy, and his sister Janet Davis. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will be carried on by his family and friends. In this time of loss, we celebrate the life of James Dale Poppy—a man who embodied kindness and joy, whose laughter could light up any room. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him. A memorial gathering to celebrate the life of Dale Poppy will be 9:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Richardson Funeral Service in Cedar Falls followed by the urn burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens alongside his wife, Charleen.
