Daniel Balm

Daniel Casey “Danny” Balm, 32, of Waterloo, died Sunday, February 26, 2023, at his residence. He was born on November 1, 1990, in Iowa City, IA, the son of Jonathon and Ann Marie (Bushby) Balm. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 2009. Daniel is survived by his father, Jon (Angie Story) Balm of Brooklyn, IA; mother, Ann Marie Balm-Olson of Cedar Falls, IA; sister, Joan (Corey) Rasmussen of Cedar Falls; brother, Dustin Balm of Cedar Falls; twin brother, Derek Balm of Cedar Falls; Jeff (Lynn) Olson of Snowmass, CO; Sara (Chris) Taylor of Poughkeepsie, NY; Phil Johnson of Malcom, IA; paternal grandmother, Rev. Darline Balm-Demmel of Cedar Falls; and maternal grandmother, Catherine Bushby of Longwood, FL. He also had nieces and nephews Kayla (Garrett) Dean of Waterloo and her daughter Mila 6 months; Trevor (Alexandra) Balm of New Hartford and his sons Jonathan 4, Isaac 1; twins Kiley and Keenan Rasmussen of Cedar Falls; Aiden and Chase Taylor of Poughkeepsie, NY; and Riley Olson of Snowmass, CO. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Dr. Dale Wilson Olson; paternal grandfather, Rev. Thomas R. Balm; maternal grandfather, Richard Bushby; and step-grandfather, Gary Demmel. Daniel was a thoughtful young man, and his friends were always a source of joy for him. Daniel had many pets over the years and loved them all. He is survived by the family dogs he loved Ellie and Isabelle and cats Poppy, Eloise, Wilson, and Simba. He enjoyed skateboarding and crafted beautiful bracelets and necklaces with beads and hemp. He was a joy to be around and enjoyed music, playing both the piano and drums. He worked hard at the jobs he had over the years such as Courier paperboy, detasseling, working at the Bremer Diner in Waverly, Burger King and the Ramada in Waterloo, Montage and Insomnia Cookies in Cedar Falls. Most recently he was employed at Jiffy Lube in Cedar Falls. A Celebration of Danny’s Life service will be held 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday, March 26, 2023, at St. Timothy’s United Methodist Church (3220 Terrace Drive, Cedar Falls, IA 50613).
