David Wetzel

David A. Wetzel (1955-2009) CEDAR FALLS-David A. Wetzel, 53, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, formerly of Bayard died Sunday, January 25, 2009 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa of colon cancer. He was born November 23, 1955 in Jefferson, son of Albert and Jeanette (Miller) Wetzel. He married Bonnie Suchy on July 14, 1979 in Belle Plaine. Mr. Wetzel graduated from Iowa State University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Business. He was employed with Farm Credit Services of America for over 30 years, currently as a Regional Swine Specialist. He was a loyal Iowa State fan and had been involved in various community activities. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Bonnie; two sons, Nic and Brett Wetzel, both of Ames; a daughter, Lisa (Nick) Newgard of Cedar Falls; his parents, of Bayard; two brothers, Jim (Linda) Wetzel of Olathe, KS, and Steve (Lybi) Wetzel of Miami, FL; father-in-law, Richard Suchy of Elberon, IA; brother-in-law, Maurice Nielsen of Hartland, WI; sisters-in-law, Sue Wetzel of Jacksonville, FL, Donna Suchy (Tim Dicey) of Rochester, NY, Ginny (David) Werning of Marco Island, Fl, Teresa Suchy (Jr Toney) of Elberon, IA, and Sandy (Doug) Krough of Gilman, IA; twenty-five nieces and nephews; and six great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by grandparents, Clive and Jennie Miller and Andrew and Inga Wetzel; a sister, Linda Nielsen; and mother-in-law, Pauline Suchy. The family is deeply appreciative of guidance and support of the entire medical professionals involved with Dave's care through his battle with cancer and the numerous acts of kindness and outpouring of love by friends and family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Waterloo, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Richardson Funeral Home (266-3525) is in charge of arrangements. In Lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the church, American Cancer Society and the Cedar Valley Hospice. Dave was an extraordinary human being characterized by his faith, family, friends, loyalty to his company and his willingness to always help others.
