Faye Rohwedder

Faye E. Rohwedder, 88, of Cedar Falls, died on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the Western Home Communities, Nation Cottage. She was born on May 22, 1936, in Brooklyn, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Dora (Ladd) Breneman. She graduated from Grinnell High School then earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Iowa State Teachers College/UNI. On December 23, 1956, she was united in marriage to Donald Rohwedder in Grinnell. She worked as a teacher in Aplington and Dunkerton before teaching fourth and fifth graders at Lincoln and North Cedar Elementary Schools in Cedar Falls. Faye had an incredible love for her family and was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Spending time with those she loved was genuinely her favorite hobby. She was an avid reader and sports fan who enjoyed cheering her sons and grandchildren on no matter the sport. She also loved watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers. She was known to clap and cheer at her TV. She supported her sons throughout Boy Scouts by serving as a Den Mother in the early years and could always be counted on to lend a helping hand with the endless ceremonies. When birthdays rolled around you could be sure she was whipping up a batch of her famous chocolate chip cookies or banana bread. In retirement, she and Don enjoyed their life on the river and traveling down south with their camper. She truly loved her career of 33 years as a teacher. She relished running into former students. Birdwatching, walking, and gardening were the other interests she had. Faye was strong in her faith and was very dedicated member of First United Methodist Church, serving in roles through UMW and assisting with community meals. Faye’s infectious smile and kindness will be missed by all who knew her. Faye is survived by her children, Bill (Stacy) Rohwedder of Waterloo and John (Sara) Rohwedder of Hoover, AL; grandchildren, Melissa (Brad) Rohwedder, Rebecca (Dustin) Eighmy, Katie (Ryan) Wirtjes, Jenna (Tyler) Scott, Nick (Hilary) Rohwedder, Blake (Jade) Rohwedder, David (Chandler) Rohwedder, Mikel (Nicole) Rohwedder, Danelle (Nick) Cash, Julia (Michael) Salamone, and Suzie (Abigail) Rohwedder; fifteen great-grandchildren; and brother, Dennis (Judy) Breneman of Oxford, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, and son, Tim Rohwedder. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the church, Cedar Valley Hospice, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
