Karen K. Secor

Karen Kay (Melcher) Secor, born April 28, 1944, in Gary, Indiana, passed away surrounded by the love of her family on Monday, June 22, 2026. When she was eight years old, her family moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1962 and married, Richard “Dick” Secor, on August 21, 1965. Karen was preceded in death by her parents; Clarence and Catherine (Stenger) Melcher; husband Dick; sisters, Lois McFarlane and MaryLee Weis; and brothers, Mel Melcher and Al Melcher. A devoted and hardworking woman, Karen spent many years at K Mart and Heritage Credit Union before retiring from Veridian Credit Union in 2004. Even after retirement, her heart for service continued as she worked at Saint Ed’s Daycare. Karen’s Catholic faith was the foundation of her life. A proud and lifelong member of Saint Patrick Catholic Church for 74 years, she served as a Eucharistic Minister, volunteered in Faith Formation, helped organize community meals, and sponsored many individuals through RCIA. She attended Bible study for more than 35 years, nurturing a faith that guided her every day. Above all, Karen was a kind, loving, and selfless mother, grandmother, and friend. She was always ready to help, always ready to listen, and always ready to give. She adored her family and treasured every moment spent with them. She loved nature, traveling with her family and friends, music and watching sunsets—simple joys that reflected her gentle heart. Karen will be forever loved and deeply missed by her family. She is survived by her children: Rick Secor (Keary), Kristina Steen (Brian), Tony Secor (Lisa), and Jennifer Harken (Joe). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Michael Steen, Taylor Steen (Kasandra), Harleigh Secor (Nicole), Hunter Secor, Alivia Brown (Joey), Hayden Secor, Jace Harken, Tanner Secor, and Josie Harken; and her great grandchildren: Savanna Schmidt, Kenneth Steen, Hudson Secor, Layla Secor, Everest Brown, and Tatum Brown. Her legacy of faith, kindness, and unconditional love will live on in all who were blessed to know her. A special thank you to NewAldaya Memory Care who cared for and loved our mon as much as we do.
