In Loving Memory of Kristy Lynn Herbrandson (June 22, 1982 - January 2, 2024) Kristy Lynn Herbrandson peacefully passed away on January 2, 2024, at her home in Waterloo, Iowa, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 22, 1982, in Waterloo, Kristy was the cherished daughter of Donna Boeckenstedt Morrow and Mark Herbrandson. Kristy's educational journey was distinguished, graduating from Columbus High School in Waterloo before pursuing higher education at the University of Iowa, University of Northern Iowa and Allen College of Nursing, where she earned two bachelor’s and two master’s degrees. Her professional journey led her to become a dedicated Nurse Practitioner. Kristy's life was marked by a genuine spirit of adventure. She found joy in simple pleasures such as amusement parks, water parks, 4-wheelers, airplane rides with David and kayaking. Her passion for travel took her to beautiful destinations, including Ireland, Scotland, Mexico, England, Spain, and France. Beyond her professional work, Kristy devoted herself to volunteer efforts, supporting organizations like the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, engaging in missionary work, and volunteering in hospital emergency rooms. Her compassion extended to animals, including strays and rescues, as well as her pets, Josie, Nellie and Sophie. Kristy's vibrant spirit was evident in her love for music, particularly at concerts. U2, Coldplay, Pearl Jam and rock tribute bands held a special place in her heart, creating unforgettable concert memories. She is survived by her mother, Donna (David) Morrow of Waterloo; father, Mark (Kathy) Herbrandson of Waterloo; and brother, Mike (Angie) Herbrandson of Waterloo. She was also cherished by her godmothers, Lisa (Tom) Manson of Guttenberg, IA, and Dianne Hermsen of New Vienna, IA, along with step-grandmother, Phyllis Morrow of Carmel, IN. Preceding her in death were her maternal grandparents, Anthony and Juliana Boeckenstedt and Winnie Boeckenstedt; paternal grandparents, Carlton and Janet Herbrandson; and uncles, Harry Hermsen and Greg Herbrandson. Services and a celebration of Kristy's life will be held at Hope City Church in Waterloo on Monday, January 8, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 7th, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Richardson Funeral Service in Cedar Falls, with interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to the family. The memory of Kristy Herbrandson will forever glow in the hearts of those who were fortunate to share in her journey.
