Larry Lee Linsey

Larry Lee Linsey, SFC (Retired), was born October 17, 1939, in Humboldt, Iowa, to Leo Linsey and Verlie Smith. He died January 7, 2024, in Waterloo. He grew up in Waterloo and graduated from East High in 1958. He had joined the Naval Reserves during high school but transferred to the active Army in 1959 as a pressman. He married Marilyn Hansen in 1959. They had two daughters. They later divorced. Larry returned to Waterloo in 1962 and worked at Lincoln Press and later at Scott Litho. He sold mobile homes and discovered his sales magic. He later worked at John Deere. In 1975, he married Kay Erusha. During the layoffs of the 1980s, he left Deere and rejoined the Army, where he would spend the next twenty years. Larry served as a highly successful Army recruiter for many years in Iowa and Kentucky, and later joined the US Army Personnel Center in St Louis. Larry and Kay retired to St. Charles, Missouri, where Larry found time to do renovations on his house and playing around in his workshop. He was a gifted carpenter. After his wife died in 2017, he moved to Mallard Point in Cedar Falls. He loved to make people laugh and he had a live-in audience for his silliness. He was even crowned Prom King during one of the many fun events at the facility. Unfortunately, he had an accident and spent the last two years at Manor Care/Harmony Waterloo in skilled care, where he passed peacefully. He leaves two daughters, Lori Hahn (Vivien Neves) of Denver, IA, and Angee Linsey of Portugal; one son, Cory Linsey (Megan) of St. Charles; grandchildren, Ben Hahn (Serena) of Texas, Joe Hahn (Caleb Maddox) of Washington, Emily Hahn of Denver, IA, and River Linsey of St. Charles, MO. He also leaves sisters-in-law, Linda Linsey and Judy Ripley. Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Kay, and daughter, Amber Linsey; parents; brothers, Harold Ripley, Roger Linsey, and Jerry Linsey; sisters, Janis Ladnier, Dixie Lee Peterson, and Judy Young; and nephew, Michael Linsey. Memorial services will be at 5:30pm on Friday, January 12, 2024, at Richardson Funeral Service in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be from 4pm-5:30pm. Inurnment will be in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the family.
