Leon Ruebel

Leon Charles Ruebel, 85, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, passed away peacefully at Martin Suites, Western Home Communities on March 10, 2025. Leon was born in Manson, lowa, to Charley and Ruth (Calmer) Ruebel. He was the youngest of five siblings and grew up in a close-knit family. After graduating from Grundy Center Community High School in 1957, Leon enlisted in the U.S. Army. While stationed in San Francisco, California, Leon met the first love of his life, Mary Kathleen "Kay" (Williams) Ruebel. They married and built a loving family together, raising three children: Richard (Bonnie) Ruebel of Waverly, lowa; Christine Ruebel of Kansas City, Missouri; and Randell Ruebel, who preceded Leon in death. Later in life, Leon was blessed to find love again when he met Mary Schiller in Cedar Falls. The two were married in August 2006, sharing years of companionship and happiness. Leon was a proud member of the AMVETS Post 49, where he found camaraderie with fellow veterans. He embodied the values of hard work, integrity, and devotion to his country, truly defining what it means to be a patriot. Leon had a deep love for the outdoors and found peace and joy in nature throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Kathleen "Kay" Ruebel; his son, Randell Ruebel; his parents, Charley and Ruth Ruebel; and his siblings: sisters Ruth and Elayne, and brothers Ed and Marion Ruebel. Leon's legacy lives on through his family, including his 5 beloved grandchildren: Staci Bruns, Josh Ruebel, Megan Hamm, Maya Ruebel-Marshall, and Reece Ruebel-Marshall; and eight great-grandchildren, Eva Bruns, Dominic Bruns, Norah Bruns, Ethan Bruns, Gabe Bruns, Dane Ruebel, Leon Ruebel, Lincoln Ruebel, Leon will be remembered for his strength, his dedication to his loved ones, and the unwavering patriotism that guided his life. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Private family interment at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 11th at Richardson Funeral Service in Cedar Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49 Honor Guard or St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls.
