M. Anderson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Merle was born April 17, 1914, in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Martin and Mary (Mogster) Anderson. He graduated from I.S.T.C. (UNI) in 1938 and later served in the United States Navy during World War II. On May 9, 1941, he was united in marriage to Edith L. Akin in Waterloo. She died April 8, 1995. He then married Phyllis T. Glenn November 30, 1996 in Cedar Falls. Prior to his service in the U.S. Navy, he taught business in the Newhall and Webster City School Systems. He then owned and operated College Hill Barbershop for 41 years, retiring in 1981. He was past member and board member of the Cedar Falls Chamber of Commerce, UNI Alumni Board of Directors, served on the Cedar Falls City Council in the early 1960's and was currently the President Elect of the Cedar Falls Kiwanis. Merle is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Cedar Falls; four daughters, Lynda K. (Paul) Hoffmann of Wilmette, IL, Kristi J. Kane of Scottsdale, AZ, Kathy L. (Lee) Rempe of Manchester, and Judy J. (Darrell) Zmolek of Dubuque; son Keaven M. (Judy) Anderson of Downingtown, PA; step-son, Rick (Debra) Glenn of Cedar Falls; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and sister, Genevieve Law of Mesa, AZ. Merle died Thursday, September 25, 2003, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; brothers, Clarence and Orrin, sister, Mildred Murphy and stepdaughter, Jean.
