Shawn Michael Bartz

Shawn Michael Bartz, 58, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, passed away on June 28, 2026, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital in Waterloo, IA after a sudden illness. Shawn was a compassionate, loyal, and hardworking man. Above all else, he was a high-quality person who will be missed dearly. His integrity, generous heart and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Family was the center of Shawn’s life. He shared 35 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Brenda. High school sweethearts, the two were united in marriage on September 22, 1990, and built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. Their marriage was a beautiful example of enduring love and partnership. Shawn’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was being a father. His two boys were his entire world, and he took immense pride in raising them. He treasured every moment spent with his family and worked tirelessly to provide them with love, guidance, and encouragement. For 34 years, he proudly worked at John Deere-Product Engineering Center, where his strong work ethic, loyalty, and commitment earned the respect of his co-workers and those who knew him. When he wasn’t working or spending time with those he loved, Shawn could often be found outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and simply being outside. He was also a devoted fan of the Minnesota Vikings and looked forward to cheering them on each season. Though Shawn’s time with us was far too short, the legacy he leaves behind is one of love, strength, compassion, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family. He will be remembered not only for the life he lived but for the countless lives he made better simply by being a part of them. Shawn is survived by his loving wife, Brenda; sons, Trevor Bartz (significant other Brianna Olson) of Parkersburg, and Austin Bartz of Cedar Falls; and granddaughter Lovelyn Fitzgerald. Shawn was very excited to be welcoming twin grandbabies in January. He is also survived by his parents, Eddie and Rose (Smith) Bartz of Lansing, IA; brother, Aaron Bartz of Lansing, IA; sister Noelle (Matt) Reams of Lansing, IA; sister-in-law Linda (Gary) Steven of New Hampton; sister-in-law Jane Seelhammer of New Hampton, and brother-in-law Rick (Susan) Seelhammer of The Villages, FL. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law Robert Seelhammer and Harriet (Seelhammer) CaPaul; and two brothers-in-law, Jack and Steve Seelhammer. Visitation will be 4-7pm on Thursday July 2, 2026, at the Richardson Funeral Service in Cedar Falls. Vigil service at 10:00 am Friday July 3, 2026, at Richardson Funeral Service in Cedar Falls, with interment in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery, North Washington, IA.
