Susan Keller

CEDAR FALLS – Susan Henrietta Keller, 83, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Martin Suites at Western Home Communities. She was born on July 7, 1940, in St. Paul, MN, the daughter of James and Ellen (Jarvinen) Paist. She married Russell Knoll on October 11, 1960. They later divorced. She then married Edwin Keller on August 8, 1988. Susan owned and operated Susie’s Art. Susie, as she was affectionately called, was a fun-loving personality and a creative spirit. She loved to create art, music, and laughter. She loved to sing and was a part of a trio in high school. Her career took her through many experiences such as working at a country club in St Paul, running a coffee business and her passion of creating art for everyone to enjoy. Her daughters were especially thrilled when a mural of their favorite Disney characters appeared on their bedroom walls. Susie had wonderful friends in life – early on, Sister Mary Lamski and LaVonne Misner were her best pals and still are to this day. Her ‘blood’ sisters – Donna, Lois, and Bonnie – were a tight knit group and they enjoyed life to the fullest together. Other dear friends were Kristie, Jan, and Loretta. The family also wants to mention the wonderful staff at the Western Home Martin Center who dearly loved “Suz” or “Susie-Q” we want to thank them for all the love they poured into our Mother and the exceptional care they gave her. THANK YOU! Susan is survived by her daughters, Joyce Knoll (Jeff Buss) of Charles City, IA, and Linda (Mark) Kellner of De Soto, KS; Four Grandchildren - Nicole (Matthew) Christensen, Jacob (Lydia) Buss, Nathan (Alexis) Buss, Justina Kellner (Vincent Sung) And 6 Great Grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews and Edwin Keller’s children Doug (Anne) Keller and Bobbie (Justen) Metcalf. She was preceded in death by her parents in the late 1990s, her devoted and loving husband, Edwin, in 2000; and brother, Herbert Paist, in 2020. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Richardson Funeral Service in Cedar Falls with burial by the family at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, IA. Susie loved animals and the creative arts, so it is requested that in lieu of flowers or gifts, memorials may be directed to your local no kill animal shelter or programs that promote the arts.
