Leon C. Mueterthies

August 22, 1937 - January 15, 2022

WATERLOO- Leon C. Mueterthies, 84, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022, Ravenwood Specialty Care, Waterloo, IA. Leon was born on August 22, 1937, in St. Lucas, IA, the son of Frank and Julia (Reicks) Mueterthies. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Army. Leon later attended Iowa State University, studying engineering. On December 28th, 1965, Leon was united in marriage to Goldie Easterling Reel in Grundy Center. He worked as a Civil Engineer and Field Office Manager, later retiring from Cedar Valley Corp. He is survived by: his daughter-in-law, Lena Mueterthies of Ames; two step-sons, Robert (Uriah) Reel – Bohrer of Des Moines and Glen Reel of Cedar Falls; one step-daughter, Lana (Lance) Floy of Clear Lake; seven grandchildren, Jaz Mueterthies of Ames, Skylar and Zac Mueterthies of Cedar Falls, Stephanie (Shawn) Hohenzy of Cedar Falls, Shanna Floy of Des Moines, Alesha Wiegmann of Des Moines, and Ashley Reel of Hampton; two sisters, Bernice Kout of Lawler, and Delores Schluetter of New Hampton; a sister-in-law, Joan Mueterthies of Lawler; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Goldie; a son, Scott Michael Mueterthies; and two brothers Clarence and Alfred “Fritz” Mueterthies. A visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Richardson Funeral Service. The family requests masks to be worn at all times. An interment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family.
