Lisa Nyman
June 14, 1965 - November 4, 2021
Lisa was born June 14, 1965, in Waterloo, the daughter of Reverend Perry and Marcella (Augustson) Stevens. Lisa graduated from West Union High School and attended the University of Northern Iowa. In February of 1997 she was united in marriage to Michael Nyman, they later divorced. Lisa worked for 18 years at Target Distribution Center in the warehouse, retiring in 2021 for health reasons. Lisa is survived by: her daughter, Hannah Nyman of Cedar Falls; her son, John Nyman, of Cedar Falls; two sisters, Sandy (Rod) Christen of Rochester, NY, and Marie (Steve) Frey of Platte, SD; a brother, Charles (Caitlin) Stevens of Melbourne, VIC, AU; and her father, Perry (Ellen) Stevens of Platte, SD. She was preceded in death by: her mother, Marcella; and two brothers, Robert Stevens and Andrew Stevens. Lisa was a kind and gentle soul, passionate in every aspect of her life, especially her children and pets. Lisa loved Hannah and John deeply and she was always so proud of them. John played many a board game with his Mom and they would read and share the joy of the same books. Lisa and Hannah would plan trips they would some day take. Lisa was a warrior in life. She was tenacious, strong, and she had grit. Also, with a little humor, she could be stubborn. Lisa led by example and she lived out her core beliefs wholeheartedly. Lisa was an advocate for animals and seemed to always be looking for an animal to rescue. Rosie, Ely, and Thor were the same as children to her. She was an environmentalist and lived her life in way to no cause harm. Lisa wanted to be a writer and loved books and books and books. She loved Poetry, philosophy, mystery and cookbooks. Do not forget the green thumb Lisa had! She was an avid gardener always working on improving her front yard, and saving the bees. Lisa was a hippie at heart, sneaking into a Pink Floyd concert and traveling to see the Grateful Dead. She also loved to just be outside, whether it be home or camping. Her friends know she could knit in her sleep! Lisa was the queen of knitting. From the moment of her diagnosis she was positive and strong. She armed herself with knowledge and recipes to fight on her own terms. She was determined to be here for her family as long as she could. She endured through more than many of us could bear. Two years went faster than any of us imagined and every minute was precious to us. She has changed us all for the better. Memorials may be directed to the family.
