GRUNDY CENTER – Rachel C. Schildroth, 82, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital in Waterloo. Rachel C. Schildroth was born May 10, 1937 to Reuben and Ella Schildroth at their farm home in Washington township, Grundy Co. Iowa. She attended the country school for three years and then transferred to Reinbeck school through 11th grade, graduating from Grundy Center school in 1955. She graduated from St. Luke's school of nursing, Baptist Bible Seminary of Johnson City, NY, and Frontier Nursing School in Kentucky as a certified midwife. She then spent 3 years as a missionary in Liberia, Africa.Later she attended college at the University of Virginia and also Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, Ia. Rachel then returned to Liberia, Africa as a missionary for another 20 years. After a military coup in Liberia, she moved to Staten Island, NY and ministered to Liberian Refugees for another 20 years. She retired in 2016 and moved back to Grundy Center. One of the Liberian gave this testimony, “God blessed us by sending Miss Schildroth to us because Missy loved us.” Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, and three brothers. She is survived by her sister, Arlene Schildroth, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. A Family Directed Celebration of Life will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 24th at First Baptist Church in Grundy Center. Private burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center, prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to Repentance Baptist Church in Staten Island, NY, through First Baptist Church in Grundy Center.
