Cheryl Hetherton

Announcing a change of address for Cheryl Therese Hetherton. She may, as of August 15, 2023, be reached in Heaven! Her cell phone is no longer active but please reach out to her via prayer. Prior to her move, Cheryl lived in Cedar Falls, IA. On July 18, 1964 she married her high school sweetheart, Larry Hetherton. Cheryl and Larry have three sons: Todd (Mitzi) of Johnston, IA, Chris (Amy) of Cedar Falls, IA and Sean (Jennifer) of Brighton, MI. They have eleven grandchildren: Meaghan, Geordon, Matt, Lara, Anne Marie, Julia, Allison, Reed, Sydney, Grant and Aubrey, and three great grandchildren: Owen, Eiley and Mavis. Cheryl was born in Moline, IL to John Donald and Leona Sims on June 10, 1944. She attended St. Edward's grade school and Columbus High School in Waterloo. Following high school, she became a beautician. She eventually drove the school bus for St. Patrick's School, and then worked at AEA 7 for 17 years, retiring in 2000. She loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, playing cards and golf. She attended more sporting events than any one mother should have had to. The best way to describe Cheryl is this way: "People will always remember who showed up. They will remember who bothered to rearrange their schedule, to make inconvenient choices, and who made them a priority." She wore herself out putting her entire family first and will forever be loved and missed for ALWAYS "showing up"! Cheryl is survived by Larry, their sons and their families, as well as sisters Linda Paar of Waterloo, IA and Bridget (Patrick) Guccione of Berthoud, Co., along with three nieces, a nephew, and three great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Dru and Ken Hetherton, and brother-in-law David Paar. The family wishes to thank the staff at Unity Point Health and Cedar Valley Hospice for their heartfelt care of Cheryl in her final days. Tributes may be made to Cedar Valley Hospice and the Michael J. Fox (Parkinson's) Foundation. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2023, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls. A rosary will be at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, August 18th at Richardson Funeral Service with a visitation to follow until 7 p.m.
