Darlyce Drum

Darlyce Avon Drum, a cherished soul who’s greatest treasure was the love she found in her Heavenly Father, left us on November 26th, 2024. Darlyce was born in Plainfield Iowa on February 10th, 1932 to Lyle and Ava (Bossom) Smith. She graduated from Cedar Falls High school in 1949. On August 20th of that same year, she was united in marriage to Robert L Drum at First Baptist Church in Cedar Falls. To that union they were blessed with three beautiful children; Dan, Vicki, and Jody. As a young married couple Robert and Darlyce followed their hearts to Colorado to experience life in the mountains. After a short time, Iowa beckoned them home to be closer with family, which is where they established a life together in the cedar valley. Darlyce was a faithfully devoted wife, mother, and dedicated professional. She started her career at the University of Northern Iowa in the library as a clerk. Her hard-work, skills and talents earned her the position of administrative assistant to the Vice President of Finance where she proudly worked until her retirement, a career that spanned forty years. Service to others was one of her greatest gifts, she lived out the virtue of hospitality, through home-cooked meals, her warm smile and a gentle hug. She loved children, and had a watchful eye for noticing those on the fringes. She had a special gift of welcoming others in and making everyone feel at home. Darlyce's big heart and gift of hospitality flowed as a result of her relationship with Jesus. Mondays were a highlight of her week when she could meet with her friends and study the Word, especially the book of Revelation. Prairie Lakes was her home away from home and place of mission and purpose in her later years. Her absence will be felt by a multitude of those who loved and served alongside her. She is survived by her children Dan Drum and Vicki Goshon of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren Joy (Ryan) Hauge of Ames, IA, Crystal (Tyson) Underwood of Boone, IA Steven (Sarah) Goshon of Nashville, TN and Jeidan Drum of Cedar Falls; a grandson-in-law, Tim Flynn; a step-grandchild, Melanie Novick of Ithaca, NY; eleven great-gandchildren, Lily, Rebekah & Kate Hauge; Klaire (Nathan) Gobell; Emmie, Parker, Charlotte and Wells Underwood, Maverick Goshon, Savanna Flynn, and Jacob and Edie Novick. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert Drum, a daughter Jody, two grandchildren Dean and Sara; and a brother, Burdette Smith. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 29, 2024, at Prairie Lakes Church in Cedar Falls with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the church until service time.
