Mark McCalley

Mark Alan McCalley, son of David and Mary McCalley, was born October 12,1961 at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Mark entered eternal life on October 16, 2024. Raised in Cedar Falls, Mark lived an amazing life filled with many firsts and was a gentle friendly person with an infectious smile. Mark attended River Hills School and integrated into the community through several living settings, held a 20-year Wal-Mart career, and enjoyed a variety of music genres and sports. After confirmation at First Presbyterian Church, Mark said “now I have three families – McCalley’s, group home, and church.” Mark leveraged the life skills he learned at Rivier Hills to bring joy to those around him through singing, dancing, family celebrations, holiday parties, and travel. Mark enjoyed bike rides, participated in a softball league, was an accomplished bowler and swimmer, and shared a love for the Cubs and UNI. Mark’s swimming skills earned him a trip to International Special Olympics in 1979. Mark was politically astute and met multiple federal and local candidates. Mark’s travels took him across the country, Caribbean, Hawaii, Disney World, and Ireland. Mark was generous with his friendships and shared a deep love for his entire family near and far. If you knew Mark well, you were likely to be considered part of his family. Mourning Mark’s passing are mother, Mary McCalley, sisters Lisa McCalley and Ann McCalley (Petros Levis), brother John McCalley, niece Krista and grandnephew Aidan McCalley, aunt Diane (Dick) Lesh and family, aunt Judy (Claire) Newton and family, aunt Janis Taylor and family, great aunt Lois (Stan) Schleuter and family, and many more relatives and friends. Preceding Mark were his father David McCalley, uncle Richard “Dick” Taylor, cousin William “Bill” Taylor, paternal grandparents Ray and Idene McCalley, maternal grandparents Floyd and Leona Taylor, aunt Donna (Fran) Luse, and cousin Richard Luse. There will be a visitation at 10:00 am with celebration of life at 11:00 am, November 9th at First Presbyterian Church of Cedar Falls. Fellowship and lunch immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to River Hills School or Cedar Falls First Presbyterian Church.
