Mary Jane Boorom

Mary Jane Boorom (1946-2017) CEDAR FALLS – Mary Jane Boorom, 71, of Cedar Falls died Friday, September 1, 2017 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo from complications of kidney disease. She was born February 13, 1946 in Waterloo, daughter of Carl and Agnes (Hanus) Luze. She married Richard Boorom on October 24, 1970 in at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Traer. He died April 3, 2010. She graduated from Mercedian School of Practical Nursing in 1965; earned her Associate Degree of Nursing in 1970 from North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC); and completed the Parish Nurse Program at NIACC in 1992. She was employed as an RN at St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo and Mercy Hospital in Mason City. She taught in the Practical Nurse Program at Hawkeye Tech; was Administrator at Cedar West Nursing Home in Cedar Falls; and was an office nurse for Medical Associates in Cedar Falls and Black Hawk County Public Health. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cedar Falls, where she served as Parish Nurse, Deaconess, and Sunday School Teacher. Survived by: three sons, Jeff (Andrea) Boorom of Minneapolis, MN, Tim Boorom of Cedar Falls, and Jon (Melissa) Boorom of Burnsville, MN; three grandsons, Oliver Boorom, Jasper Boorom and Hendrick Boorom; a brother, Dwayne (Lana) Luze of Dysart; a brother-in-law, Robert (Karen) Boorom of Moville, IA; a sister-in-law, Linda (Bob) Blitch of Cedar Falls; a foster brother, Robert (Bonnie) Hamer of Cedar Falls; several nieces and a nephew. Preceded in death by: her parents: two brothers-in-law, Lyle and Roger Boorom; and two sisters-in-law, Peggy Boorom and Jenna Mae Boorom. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 8, at Richardson Funeral Service with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 7, at the funeral home and also for one hour prior to the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, 4-H Camp Scholarship, Western Home Pastoral Fund, or the Cedar Valley Food Bank. She was a member of the Civil War Round Table & 31st Iowa Civil War Reenactors Group and “Happy Stitchers” group at Windridge. She volunteered at the Western Home Communities.
